Autism and Sepectrum Struggles
Mason
It began with some sensory issues, trouble with transitions that continued through 3k and in 4k. We were getting sporadic communication from his teacher in 4k, and the things she was describing to us about his behavior didn’t seem like our child. He was insubordinate, violent, and angry. I was being called multiple times a week to pick him up from school early. As a teacher myself, I knew that something wasn’t right.
He was finally diagnosed with autism in December, and we were hopeful that the school would be able to provide what he needed to be successful. We still struggled. He wouldn’t be able to start SpEd services for a few weeks, and, after observing for a week in his classroom, we realized that he was mimicking student behavior, that the teacher was struggling with how to deal with a student on the spectrum, and that the administration was adopting a very “hands off” approach.
After being informed that my very high-functioning child (He was reading aloud and counting to 100 at the age of 4) would be placed in a self-contained SpEd classroom because of his behavior, I considered taking a leave of absence from my teaching job so that I could homeschool him.
Finally, in January, a friend of mine suggested we go listen to this talk called “The Perfect Storm”. To be honest, I thought it was going to be a bunch of baloney, but we were at our wits end with Mason, and we knew he was really struggling. He wasn’t happy at school, and it carried over into our home life, making us miserable, too. When Dr. Angela began speaking, I immediately thought “She’s describing Mason and what he is going through! We might finally be getting some answers!” It was incredibly emotional for me, and at one point, I was openly bawling.
I made Mason’s initial appointment that night, and the following week, our family went to the office for Mason’s initial scans and evaluation. It was daunting, at the beginning, thinking that we would be driving down to West Ashley three times a week, for something that we were crossing our fingers would work with Mason.
I truly believe that there was a higher power at work during this transitional time. We found Dr. Angela and Dr. Chris at a point in our lives where we felt like everyone had given up on our child. Also, shortly after Mason began chiropractic, we were able to transfer him to the 4K program at a different school, where he began to thrive.
All of these things just seemed to fall into place, and Mason began to literally transform. Almost immediately, there were fewer and fewer meltdowns. We weren’t having screaming matches every day after school. He was just HAPPIER. I feel like I finally have MY child back. He’s sociable, smart, funny, loving, and kind. Those are not words that anyone would have used to describe him 5 months ago.
Now, as we are nearing the end of his initial care plan, which we began back in January, it seems bittersweet. Drs. Angela and Chris are the most caring people. Mason absolutely adores them, and enjoys his adjustments, as well as his “play time” with Dr. Chris afterwords! I know that what they have done for him isn’t some miracle cure that magically turned our son into the person I always knew that he was, but it’s hard not to credit them with being a large part of his “recovery”.
I don’t have the words to describe what they have done for our family, but if your child is struggling, and you feel as though there is NOTHING more you can do, please know that there is still hope, and that Dr. Angela and Dr. Chris truly care about making children healthier. We could not have made this journey without them.

Waylon
When Waylon first came to us, he was struggling with a lot—ASD, speech delay, high muscle tone, constant motion, and frequent meltdowns. 😢 His inability to communicate his needs made him incredibly frustrated, especially with the speech delay. His mom shared that his history included pregnancy stress, birth trauma, difficulty breastfeeding, head banging, motor milestone delays, allergies, difficulty eating, and ear infections.
We knew his body was stuck in a state of sympathetic overwhelm—constantly in “fight or flight” mode, reacting to every little stressor. This was impacting every part of his development, behavior, and health. 💥
But since starting his care plan, we’ve already seen some BIG changes! 🙌 Waylon is now showing more confidence, communicating more, and feeling much less overwhelmed by everyday situations. He’s gone from shouting during his adjustments to smiling—a clear sign that his body is starting to relax and heal, instead of staying stuck in that fight-or-flight response. 🧠✨
It’s incredible to witness his nervous system shift towards calm and healing. His progress so far is just the beginning, and we’re beyond excited for what’s to come! We can’t wait to see even bigger breakthroughs as Waylon continues to grow, heal, and thrive! 💪💙
Waylon, you’re amazing, and we’re so proud of you! 🎉
Bennett
🌟 Bennett's journey at New Hope Chiropractic is truly inspiring. He came to us struggling with an autism diagnosis, hyperactivity, poor emotional regulation, poor sleep, and frequent meltdowns. His history included prenatal stress, birth trauma, difficulty breastfeeding, reflux, back arching, food allergies, and frequent ear infections. His family had already tried melatonin, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, and speech therapy. Knowing we had helped his older brother, Bennett's parents believed we could make a difference for him too. 💪❤️
Our neurological scans revealed that Bennett's nervous system was overwhelmed and stuck on stress. Instead of reporting quality information to his brain, his body was flooding his brain with low-quality signals. This overwhelming input was causing his frequent meltdowns and poor emotional regulation. 📊😔
Through regular, neurological-focused care, we started to regulate Bennett's nervous system. This helped his body bring better quality information to his brain, allowing him to understand and integrate his environment better. As a result, his meltdowns became a thing of the past, his emotions stabilized, his mood improved, and he began to sleep better. 🌈🧠
Bennett's transformation has been incredible. He's now able to make better choices, integrate better in his brain, and enjoy a more balanced and happy life. We are so proud of Bennett's progress and are thrilled to see him thrive. 🌟😊
Christian
When Christian first came to us, his family had tried everything to help him reach his full potential. They had worked with a developmental pediatrician, pediatric neurologist, sleep specialist, pediatric gastroenterologist, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, and feeding therapy. Despite all these efforts, Christian was still struggling with poor focus, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and autism. 😔
Christian's history included in-utero growth restriction, low amniotic fluid, intense morning sickness for mom, birth intervention, difficulty breastfeeding, colic, reflux, delayed motor milestones, and ear tubes. All of this stress led to a state of dysautonomia in his body, preventing it from healing as it should. This meant that all the treatments his family pursued were not being utilized to their full potential because Christian was not in a healing and learning state. 😥
Through regular care at our practice, we were able to help Christian get un-stuck. By addressing the underlying neurological issues, his body started to heal, allowing him to make significant progress. 🧠✨ Not only did his focus, sleep, and anxiety improve, but he also made remarkable strides in all his other therapies. Christian's journey to better health and well-being has been incredible to witness, and we're overjoyed to see him thriving! 🌟
His family’s dedication and Christian’s perseverance have paid off, showing that with the right support, every child can reach their full potential. ❤️ If your child is struggling despite all efforts, know that there is hope and we’re here to help. Henry
When Henry came to us, his family had already tried everything to help him reach his full potential. They had worked with a psychologist, pediatrician, audiologist, otolaryngologist, pediatric psychologist, occupational therapy, feeding therapy, and speech therapy. Despite their best efforts, Henry still struggled with autism, trouble transitioning, behavioral issues, frequent meltdowns, sensory issues, speech delay, and hyperactivity. 💔
Henry's history included birth intervention, early head banging, and ear tubes. All of this stress led to a state of dysautonomia in his body, meaning his body couldn't heal as it should. 😔 So, despite all the treatments and therapies, Henry wasn't in a healing and learning state, and his progress was limited.
Through regular care, we were able to help Henry get un-stuck. 💫 Not only did all of his symptoms improve, but he also made significant progress in his other therapies. Henry's meltdowns decreased, his sensory issues lessened, and his speech improved. 🌟 He is now crushing homeschooling and continues to show awesome progress. 📚✨
Seeing Henry thrive and watching his family experience these positive changes brings us so much joy. We're thrilled to have been a part of Henry's journey to better health and well-being. 🙌💖
Teigan
When Teigan first came to us, he was struggling with developmental delays, ASD, delayed milestones, speech delay, sensory-seeking behaviors, and trouble sleeping. He had been jabbering but suddenly stopped when he started speech therapy. His body was so locked into stress that the added stress of speech therapy caused Teigan to regress with speech.
🔍 Teigan's history included the significant stress of being a twin pregnancy, stress during pregnancy, and early childhood struggles. This stress had a profound impact on his nervous system, affecting his development and daily life.
🙌🏼 Under our care, Teigan experienced a significant decrease in sensory issues, better emotional regulation, and improved sleep. His parents were thrilled to see these positive changes in their son's behavior and overall well-being.
🗣️ The most exciting change was when Teigan started jabbering again, and then he began using words! Seeing him regain his speech was a huge milestone and a testament to the power of our neurologically-focused chiropractic care.
🌟 Teigan is still a work in progress, but we are so happy to see him continue to change and grow. His story highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of stress and neurological tension to help children thrive.
💙 Watching Teigan's transformation has been incredibly rewarding. We look forward to supporting his continued progress and celebrating each new milestone.
